| BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS: | Grandma Duck lives on a farm on the outskirts of Duckburg where she raises all of her animals as pets. She personally raised Donald Duck from infanthood. Why he was separated from his parents and his twin sister is unknown. As family matriarch, Grandma's farm house is the gathering place for special events (such as Christmas, etc.). Gus Goose was hired by Grandma to be her farm-hand, but he usually just loafs and sleeps, which surprisingly Grandma actually appreciates: She feels his lack of energy, which causes her to do most of the chores, makes her feel younger and more energetic. Her true farm helpers have proven to be the tiny mice from CINDERELLA, Gus & Jaq. Apparently Elvira's husband, Humperdink, is deceased. While there has been no positive link made, it might be assumed that the whacky ghost of Grandpa Duck who appeared in the Donald Duck short "No Hunting" (Jan. 14, 1955) is Humperdink. If Humperdink IS Grandpa Duck, then he made a appearance in a memory flashback of Grandma's in the Dell giant "Vacation Parade" #2 (July 1951). | ||
| HISTORICAL FACTS: | Grandma Duck's Farm was the inspiration for a children's petting farm as part of Mickey's Starland at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Florida, where Minnie Moo, a cow with a Mickey Mouse-shaped marking, is featured. | ||
| LITTLE KNOWN SECRETS: | The character of "Grandma Duck" was created by Al Taliaferro and inspired by his mother-in-law, Donnie M. Wheaton, who also lived on a farm and had the same hair-style as Grandma Duck. First seen in a portrait on Donald's wall in the Donald Duck strip on August 11, 1940 she didn't appear in person until 1943. In film she has only made two appearances. Grandpa Duck has made on film appearance in "No Hunting" (Jan. 14, 1955), when his portrait comes to life and inspires Donald to go hunting. It is assumed that Grandpa is deceased. | ||
